Tom Brady-to-the- 49ers speculation has been swirling recently, but one San Francisco player is squarely in Jimmy Garoppolo’s corner.
“It’s ludicrous,” running back Jeff Wilson Jr. told Sports Illustrated Wednesday. “He just took us all the way to the Super Bowl, great season, wins. I mean, there’s not a lot of quarterbacks that’s even in this league that just had a season like that. And then you go from that season taking a team all the way to the Super Bowl to talks of being traded?
“He’s a great quarterback,” Wilson said of the 28-year-old Garoppolo, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl last season. “He’s been that way ever since he’s been to San Fran. It’s just unfortunate that he got hurt the year before and then kind of, you know, threw him back in the wilderness a little bit, but he came right back in like he never left and took a team all the way to the Super Bowl, so how can you talk about moving him? Or trading him to another team?”
Brady has won six Super Bowls with the Patriots. Garoppolo was thisclose to winning his first, but his 49ers blew a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter and fell 31-20 to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Garoppolo led the 49ers to a 13-3 regular-season mark last season, throwing 27 touchdowns with just 13 interceptions.
Garoppolo, who was traded from the Patriots to the 49ers on Oct. 31, 2017, also received a more subtle kind of support from All-Pro tight end George Kittle, who posted a celebration picture of himself with Garoppolo without comment on Instagram.
In other Brady news, the long-anticipated talk between Bill Belichick and the legendary quarterback finally happened Tuesday.
It “didn’t go well,” according to the Boston Herald.
