PORT ST. LUCIE — Dellin Betances is scheduled for his Grapefruit League debut Saturday against the Nationals. The right-hander, who tore his left Achilles last September, progressed to a simulated game earlier this week.
“It’s like I am graduating,” Betances said.
The ceremony to retire Jerry Koosman’s No. 36 will be held June 13 before a game against the Nationals at Citi Field. Koosman will join Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, Gil Hodges and Casey Stengel among Mets players and managers with their numbers retired.
Jacob deGrom will pitch in a simulated game Friday instead of facing the Astros in West Palm Beach. DeGrom had been lined up to face the Astros in three starts.
Johneshwy Fargas hit for the cycle for the Mets in their 7-7 exhibition tie with the Cardinals on Thursday. Fargas, an outfielder who spent last season at Double-A for the Giants, homered in his final at-bat to complete the cycle.
Tyler Bashlor surrendered three homers in a fourth inning in which the Cardinals scored six runs against him on seven hits.
Tomas Nido drove a ball to the left-center gap against Adam Wainwright in his first at-bat. Nido worked with a swing coach this offseason in an attempt to generate more power.
