There’s a lot going on with the Knicks and it’s a Tuesday, which means it’s time to get locked into a brand new episode of the “Big Apple Buckets” podcast. Kazeem Famuyide welcomes in studio, SNY host and anchor, Maria Marino.
Maria chats a bit about covering UConn women’s basketball and chatting with Geno Auriemma. Kaz, Maria and I examine the imminent hiring of Leon Rose as the next Knicks president after the firing of Steve Mills. Is the ex-agent route the way to go? Can Rose help bring in top talent to the franchise? We also break down the Marcus Morris trade to the Clippers and the Knicks getting back hometown product Moe Harkless. Did the Knicks make out well in the deal?
Also, are the Knicks still alive in a playoff race? We discuss the recent four-game winning streak that ended with a heartbreaking double-overtime loss in Atlanta. We talk about whether Mike Miller should stick as head coach past this season. Would going for Jeff Van Gundy or Tom Thibodeau be the right way to go? While I’m a fan of going with one of those seasoned vets with coaching experience, Kaz disagrees and wants the Knicks to keep Miller.
NY Post Knicks beat writer Marc Berman then drops by in his weekly spot. Berman talks about Rose’s upcoming hire as the new president and if he can get the franchise going in the right direction. What is going on with Allonzo Trier? Why didn’t the Knicks trade him? Did anybody want him? Is there any chance the Knicks could still bring Morris back this summer as a free agent? Miller has done a solid job on the interim, but Berman wrote a story detailing a short list of candidates. What is the most realistic direction the Knicks would go at head coach?
