It looks like the NBA won’t have fans at its games one way or another.
According to ESPN, the consensus among the league’s Board of Governors is to continue sans fans in the arena or to have the NBA go on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the majority preferring the former. The Knicks, reportedly, wanted to wait for a government mandate to change.
A hiatus would be an escalation of how teams around the league are currently dealing with the virus. The Nets and Warriors will in an empty Chase Arena in San Francisco in Thursday, while Wizards ownership has decided to not follow Department of Health recommendations and continue welcoming spectators.
According to the ESPN report, the NBA will decide on its next steps as soon as Thursday, with commissioner Adam Silver expected to back playing without fans in attendance.
