The NHL isn’t following the NBA’s lead — yet.

Not long after the NBA announced it would be suspending its season indefinitely due to the coronavirus on Wednesday night, the NHL released a statement of its own.

“The National Hockey League is aware of the NBA’s decision tonight to indefinitely suspend its season due to a player testing positive for the coronavirus,” the League said in a statement. “The NHL is continuing to consult with medical experts and is evaluating the options. We expect to have a further update tomorrow.”

NHL teams played five games on Wednesday, with 10 matchups slated for Thursday. The Players’ Association is expecting to continue virus-related discussions with the league before then.

“We are in continuous contact with the NHL regarding the coronavirus and the recent announcement by the NBA,” the NHLPA said in a statement. “These discussions will continue tomorrow morning, and we will consult with players before commenting further.”
